Welcome!

I am a political scientist, currently working as a DAAD visiting assistant professor at the Center for European Studies of the University of Florida.

My research focuses mainly on populist parties in international comparison, particularly their interplay with democracy, their voters and ideology, their elites and the reactions of mainstream parties to the populist challenge.

In a broader sense, my research examines the development of contemporary democracies with regard to the participation and demands of their citizens as well as the responsiveness of their institutions.

Before my employment at the CES, I was a substitute professor of public policy and state politics at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Prior to this, I served as a lecturer at several universities, such as the Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg, the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the University of Bonn, where I attained my Ph.D (Dr. phil.) in 2012 with a study on election campaigns in the German states.
